Happy New Year and Welcome to a full year of LEED certified buildings!
I am Val Cannon, The Littlest Fish Photographer. This blog is my latest project and my attempt to show you all just how gorgeous LEED can really be.
A Little Background Info.
ME: I am a photographer, a Marine Ecologist, and I fully believe we can and should build our infrastructure in such a way that we reduce our impact on the natural environment. I hold a BS from the University of California, San Diego in Ecological, Behavioral and Evolutionary Biology and will have my Masters in Environmental Leadership and Management this coming May from Duke University. I plan to take the LEED Auditor test in the summer of 2011. This project represents my goal to incorporate my photography with my environmental background in a way that may prove useful to others. I hope you enjoy it.
LEED: For those of you who are unaware of what the heck LEED is, here is a brief (VERY brief) overview. The following excerpt is taken directly from the US Green Building Council's website and can be found here:
US Green Building Council Intro
"LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.
LEED is flexible enough to apply to all building types – commercial as well as residential. It works throughout the building lifecycle – design and construction, operations and maintenance, tenant fitout, and significant retrofit. And LEED for Neighborhood Development extends the benefits of LEED beyond the building footprint into the neighborhood it serves."
My vision for this project:
I want to give you images and information about 365 LEED certified buildings around the US (and the world if I can). If an image is worth 1000 words than what better way to get my point accross than through images? I would love to give you a building a day, but figure the posts will come in spurts as I travel different places to get you more images. I will try not to starve or overwhelm you.
So, sit back and enjoy a year of information and photography devoted to edumacating you all about LEED buildings.
